Description

Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru 1999 is a superb example of why this legendary Gevrey-Chambertin vineyard is regarded as one of Burgundy’s finest sites. From one of the region’s most revered producers, it combines maturity, finesse, and unmistakable Grand Cru depth in a vintage widely celebrated for Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a beautifully evolved ruby garnet color with the subtle translucency often seen in mature Burgundy. On the nose, it unfolds with layers of ripe dark berries, spice, leather, and truffle, lifted by an earthy, mineral undertone and delicate tertiary complexity. The palate is silky and nuanced, with a superb balance of concentrated fruit, freshness, and fully integrated tannins. Elegant yet structured, it finishes long and persistent, and while it is already at a very rewarding stage, it still has enough harmony and depth to continue evolving gracefully for those inclined to cellar it further.

Production
Clos de Bèze is one of the most prestigious Grand Cru vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, prized for its limestone-rich soils and ability to produce Pinot Noir of remarkable fragrance, structure, and longevity. In the outstanding 1999 vintage, the grapes were harvested at ideal ripeness, and Domaine Armand Rousseau’s careful vinification preserved the site’s purity, balance, and expressive terroir character.

Food & Serving
This wine is a natural partner for refined dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, venison, beef tenderloin, or classic mushroom-based preparations. It also pairs beautifully with truffle dishes and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently for a short period only if needed, as mature Burgundy can be delicate.

Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most iconic estates, founded in the early 20th century and long associated with benchmark expressions of Gevrey-Chambertin. The domaine is especially renowned for its holdings in Chambertin and Clos de Bèze, and its wines have earned a global reputation for elegance, precision, and extraordinary aging potential.
