Description
Argiolas Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva Senes is a characterful Sardinian red that brings together native grapes, traditional craftsmanship, and the warmth of the island in one polished wine. Made from a blend dominated by Cannonau and supported by Carignano and Bovale, it reflects both the heritage of the region and the careful approach of one of Sardinia’s most historic producers.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Senes shows a ruby-red color with deep garnet reflections, hinting at its maturity and depth. The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of blackberry and plum jam, dried red flowers, tobacco, leather, pepper, and assertive spice notes such as clove.
On the palate, it is intense and persistent, with a solid structure balanced by a supple, smooth texture. The wine offers generous fruit, savory complexity, and refined aromatics, making it highly enjoyable now while also suggesting good short- to mid-term aging potential.
Production
Senes is produced in Sardinia from carefully selected grapes grown in a region shaped by Mediterranean sun, coastal influences, and well-suited soils for red varieties. The blend is 85% Cannonau, 10% Carignano, and 5% Bovale, vinified with great care to preserve both concentration and aromatic detail. It then spends 12 months aging in small oak barrels, followed by further bottle aging to refine the wine’s structure and complexity.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent partner for grilled lamb, roasted game, braised beef, aged pecorino, and rich Mediterranean dishes with herbs and tomato. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes to allow the aromas and texture to open fully.
Producer
Argiolas is one of Sardinia’s most important and respected family wineries, widely recognized for championing the island’s native grape varieties and winemaking identity. Founded in Serdiana, the estate has played a major role in elevating Sardinian wine on the international stage, earning a reputation for quality, authenticity, and consistent excellence.
