Description

Château Angélus is one of Saint-Émilion’s most celebrated names, known for producing richly layered, cellar-worthy reds with exceptional finesse. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé A, it stands among the region’s most prestigious estates, and the 2005 vintage is especially prized for its concentration, balance, and remarkable aging potential.

Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a deep garnet hue with hints of brick beginning to emerge at the rim, reflecting its maturity. Aromatically, it is expected to offer a complex bouquet of dark berry fruit, plum, cedar, tobacco, truffle, and subtle floral notes, with age bringing added nuance and depth. On the palate, it is usually full-bodied and refined, with dense yet polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, persistent finish. The 2005 vintage in Bordeaux is widely regarded as one of exceptional structure and longevity, so this wine should still have significant aging potential, while already offering considerable complexity and harmony.

Production
Crafted in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, the wine comes from a terroir defined by limestone and clay soils that help retain freshness while supporting ripe, concentrated fruit. At estates of this stature, grapes are generally harvested with strict selection and vinified parcel by parcel to preserve the character of each site, followed by careful aging in French oak to build structure, depth, and aromatic complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for refined dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, or truffle-based cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant if the bottle has been recently opened or if you want to let the wine fully unfold after extended aging.

Producer
Château Angélus has long been regarded as one of the leading estates in Saint-Émilion, with a reputation built on precision, consistency, and a distinctly elegant style. Its elevation to Premier Grand Cru Classé A reflects decades of excellence and its standing as one of the most important producers in Bordeaux.
