Description

Château Angélus 2003 is a powerful and highly expressive Saint-Émilion from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, bottled from a rare blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé A, it reflects both the elegance and pedigree that have made Angélus one of the benchmark names on the Right Bank.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2003 vintage typically shows a deep garnet core with some early mature hues at the rim. The nose is layered and inviting, combining ripe black fruit, plum, fig, cocoa, cedar, and warm spice, with the Cabernet Franc lending a lifted herbal and floral edge. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with the heat of the vintage contributing to a lush, concentrated texture and generous ripeness. Dark berries, mocha, truffle, tobacco, and sweet spice unfold over polished tannins, finishing long and supple. It is drinking well now, though bottles in good condition can still offer further development over the coming years.

Production
Angélus comes from prime limestone and clay slopes in Saint-Émilion, where excellent drainage and varied exposures help create wines of depth and finesse. Merlot provides volume and silkiness, while Cabernet Franc adds structure, aromatic lift, and freshness. The wine is typically vinified with great care parcel by parcel, followed by maturation in French oak barrels to build texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, truffle dishes, and rich mushroom preparations. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if opening now, especially if the bottle has been resting for some time, to allow the aromas and tannins to fully open.

Producer
Château Angélus is one of the most prestigious estates in Saint-Émilion, with a long family history and a reputation for combining tradition with precision viticulture. Elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé A status, it has become a reference point for the appellation and is widely admired for producing wines of richness, elegance, and longevity.
