Description

Angelo Negro Sette Anni Roero Arneis 2017 is a dry Arneis from Roero in Piedmont with pear, lemon and seven years of cellar depth plus a calm almond finish. Sette Anni means seven years. Here it feels like a clear choice. This is Roero Arneis with mature white fruit, sandy texture and a quietly savoury edge.

About the Wine
Angelo Negro Sette Anni Roero Arneis 2017 starts in Roero, the hill country in Piedmont that has made Arneis its white calling card. The wine comes from sandy, calcareous soils, and that sandy feel matters in the glass. The fruit has pear skin and lemon peel rather than tropical weight. The estate farms sustainably, and the wine carries a dry line through its 13.5% alcohol. This bottling is tied to the Sette Anni idea from the start. The 2017 crop was destined for a slower release than most Roero Arneis. The defining cellar choice is the seven years of ageing named on the label. Angelo Negro does not present this as a young aromatic white. The wine is released with a settled colour, a rounded citrus tone and an almond note that has moved beyond fresh kernel. Vinification keeps the wine dry, so the extra time reads as texture and detail. You taste pear, lemon oil and elderflower first. Then a stony note appears, close to warm rock and fine dust. The finish carries green almond, pale citrus and a faint saline grip.

Tasting Notes
The first pour is straw yellow, with the deeper glint you expect from a 2017 Roero Arneis held for Sette Anni ageing. Pear, lemon rind and elderflower lead the nose, followed by green almond and a dry stone note that recalls the listed volcanic rock impression in the tasting data. The palate is dry and measured, with 13.5% alcohol giving enough body for a broad mid-palate and a clean citrus line. With air, the pear turns more baked and the almond finish becomes the most distinctive part of the wine. Drinking window: 2024-2028.

Food Pairing
Pour this Angelo Negro Sette Anni Roero Arneis 2017 with fish that has a little richness, such as roast cod with lemon butter or sea bass with fennel and herbs. Seafood pasta is a strong match, especially linguine with clams where the wine’s lemon, almond and stone notes can meet the briny sauce. For a Piedmontese table, try vitello tonnato or tajarin with butter and sage, since the mature Arneis texture has enough calm weight for egg pasta and the savoury tuna sauce. Soft cheeses, grilled courgettes and asparagus risotto also suit the dry finish, especially when olive oil or toasted almonds are on the plate.

Producer
Angelo Negro is a Roero family estate with a particularly clear attachment to Arneis, and Sette Anni is the bottle that makes that attachment feel serious in the glass. Many estates in the area sell Arneis as a fresh white for early drinking, yet this wine carries the producer’s name through seven years of ageing before release. That decision gives the 2017 a profile that feels personal to the house, with pear fruit, almond and stone replacing simple spring blossom. The Negro family farms in the sandy hills of Roero, where Arneis can keep a fine grain in the texture even after time in bottle. Their range also includes red Roero wines, so this mature white sits inside a cellar culture that treats local varieties with patience. The most useful thing to know about Angelo Negro here is simple: they are willing to put Arneis in front of you as a grown-up Piedmont white, complete with age, dryness and a quietly nutty finish.
