Description

Andrias Gvino Saperavi Qvevri Red Dry 2022 is a characterful Georgian red that showcases the country’s iconic native grape in its most traditional form. Fermented and aged in clay qvevri with minimal intervention, it offers an authentic taste of Kakheti’s ancient winemaking culture. This is a pure, unfiltered expression of Saperavi that balances depth, structure and drinkability, perfect for adventurous wine lovers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Saperavi shows a deep, opaque ruby to inky purple hue, typical of the intensely pigmented variety. The nose is vibrant and inviting, with aromas of wild forest berries, ripe cherries and blackcurrants layered over notes of dried flowers, fresh herbs and a subtle earthy-spicy undertone from the qvevri aging. On the palate, the wine is both structured and refreshingly precise – a true yin and yang. Juicy dark berry and cherry fruit are carried by lively acidity, while firm but well-integrated tannins give grip and length without feeling heavy. Herbal and floral nuances add complexity, leading to a clean, dry and gently savory finish. Made without added sulfur and bottled unfiltered, it may form natural sediment over time; this is a hallmark of its artisanal, minimal-intervention style. Enjoy it now for its vivid fruit and energy, or drink over the next 5–7 years to let the tannins soften and the savory notes deepen.

Production
The Saperavi grapes come from Achmeta, a recognized micro-zone in the western part of Kakheti, near the upper reaches of the Alazani River – an area known for its continental climate, warm days, cool nights and alluvial soils that suit deeply colored, structured reds. The fruit is hand-harvested and carefully destemmed, then fermented on the skins for seven days in traditional underground qvevri using only indigenous wild yeasts. After the primary fermentation, the wine continues to age for one year in qvevri, gaining texture and complexity, before spending an additional six months in stainless steel to refine and stabilize its profile. It is bottled without sulfur additions and without fining or filtration to preserve its natural character and full aromatic spectrum.

Food & Serving
This Saperavi’s combination of fresh acidity, dark fruit and firm tannin makes it an excellent partner for hearty, flavorful dishes. Think grilled or roasted lamb, beef stews, game, spicy sausages, or Georgian classics such as khachapuri and grilled meats from the barbecue. It also works beautifully with mushroom dishes, lentil stews and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C (just below room temperature) for best balance. A gentle decant of 30–45 minutes is recommended to allow the wine to open up and to separate it from any natural sediment; pour slowly and leave the last small amount in the bottle if you want to avoid solids in the glass.

Producer
Andrias Gvino is a small, quality-focused producer dedicated to reviving and preserving Georgia’s millennia-old qvevri winemaking traditions. Working in Kakheti, the country’s most renowned wine region, the estate champions local grape varieties like Saperavi and crafts wines with minimal intervention to let terroir and grape character shine. By relying on wild ferments, clay qvevri and low-intervention cellar practices, Andrias Gvino has become part of a new wave of Georgian producers who bridge ancient methods with modern precision, helping to elevate the reputation of Georgian wines on the international stage.
