Description

André Beaufort Champagne Ambonnay Grand Cru Brut Nature Rosé is a grower Champagne for those who like their bubbles pure, precise and full of character. Sourced from the revered Grand Cru village of Ambonnay and made without dosage, this rosé delivers the unmasked expression of Pinot Noir and terroir. Beaufort has long been a quiet pioneer of natural, low-intervention Champagne, and this cuvée captures that philosophy in a vibrant, gastronomic style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Brut Nature Rosé shows a delicate yet vivid salmon-pink hue, animated by a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is expressive and complex, weaving together wild strawberries, redcurrants and raspberry coulis with blood orange peel, rose petals, a touch of pomegranate, and underlying notes of chalk, brioche and subtle spice. On the palate, it is dry, tense and driven, with the structure and depth you’d expect from pure Pinot Noir grown on Ambonnay’s chalk and clay-limestone slopes. Red berry fruit is vivid but not sweet, wrapped in a firm mineral backbone and a saline edge. Hints of citrus zest, crushed herbs and a gentle, savory autolytic character from extended lees aging add dimension. The finish is long, clean and mouthwatering, making the absence of dosage feel like a feature, not a challenge. While beautifully drinkable now, this non-vintage cuvée has the concentration and structure to evolve gracefully over the next 5–7 years, gaining more savory, toasty complexity.

Production
The fruit for this Champagne comes from estate vineyards in Ambonnay, one of Champagne’s most prestigious Grand Cru villages on the Montagne de Reims, renowned for its powerful, complex Pinot Noir. The soils are predominantly chalk with pockets of clay and limestone, giving both intensity and finesse to the grapes. André Beaufort has been farming organically for decades, avoiding synthetic chemicals and working with great respect for biodiversity and soil life. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, carefully sorted, and gently pressed. Fermentation typically takes place with indigenous yeasts, and the wines are raised with minimal intervention, often in a mix of steel and older wood, to preserve character rather than add overt oak. A portion of still red Pinot Noir is blended in to create the rosé, and the wine spends an extended period on its lees before disgorgement. Bottled as Brut Nature, it is released without dosage, allowing the terroir and the natural richness of Ambonnay Pinot Noir to shine through.

Food & Serving
This is a serious rosé Champagne that performs brilliantly at the table. Pair it with salmon or tuna tartare, charcuterie, roasted poultry, duck breast with cherries, or delicate lamb dishes. It also works beautifully with richer seafood like lobster, seared scallops, or sushi and sashimi, and can stand up to soft, creamy cheeses or aged Comté. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally around 8–10°C (46–50°F), to let the aromatics open up. A brief decant of 10–15 minutes in a wide glass or small carafe can help the wine stretch its legs, especially if served closer to cellar temperature.

Producer
The Beaufort family has been growing vines in Champagne since the early 20th century, but it was André Beaufort who put the domaine on the map by embracing organic viticulture long before it became fashionable. Based in Ambonnay, with additional holdings in Polisy in the Aube, the estate has become a benchmark for naturally made, expressive grower Champagne. Eschewing synthetic chemicals and working with low or no added sulfur, the Beauforts craft wines that are both deeply traditional and quietly radical, showing just how transparently Champagne can reflect its terroir. Their Ambonnay Grand Cru bottlings, particularly the Pinot Noir–driven cuvées, are highly regarded by enthusiasts for their individuality, depth and age-worthiness, securing André Beaufort a respected place among the region’s most characterful producers.
