Aluado, Reserva Alicante Bouschet 2021

Aluado Reserva Alicante Bouschet 2021 is a deeply coloured Portuguese red from the Lisboa region, made entirely from Alicante Bouschet. Known as a teinturier grape, Alicante Bouschet has red flesh as well as dark skin, giving the wine remarkable colour and concentration. Created in 1886, the variety has become an important part of the character of many of Portugal’s most ambitious red wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Reserva is expected to show an intensely deep ruby colour with rich violet hues. The nose should reveal ripe black fruit, including blackberry, black plum and dark cherry, supported by subtle spice and earthy tones. On the palate, Alicante Bouschet typically delivers generous body, pronounced fruit concentration and firm but well-integrated tannins, with a savoury finish that adds balance to the wine’s richness. The 2021 vintage offers the structure to develop further in bottle, while remaining approachable with decanting. Its concentration and tannic backbone suggest good medium-term ageing potential, particularly over the next three to six years when stored in a cool, dark environment.

Production
This wine is produced from 100% Alicante Bouschet grown in Lisboa, a diverse Portuguese wine region influenced by its Atlantic climate and varied soils. Specific information about the vineyard sites, harvesting methods and vinification process has not been provided; however, the Reserva designation and the naturally concentrated character of the grape point to a style focused on depth, colour and structure.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Aluado Reserva Alicante Bouschet is well suited to rich, savoury dishes such as grilled or braised beef, roast lamb, game, hearty stews and Portuguese-style pork dishes. It also pairs well with mature hard cheeses. Decant for 30–60 minutes before serving to soften the tannins and allow the dark-fruited aromas to open.
