Alter Ego 2nd Vin De Château Palmer Margaux, 2022

Alter Ego 2022 is the second wine of Château Palmer, one of Margaux’s most admired estates, offering a refined glimpse into the elegance and depth of Left Bank Bordeaux. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, it combines classic Margaux finesse with the immediacy and generosity that make it especially approachable in its youth.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby colour with purple reflections, hinting at its youthful energy. The nose is expressive and layered, bringing together ripe blackcurrant, plum, violet, cedar, and subtle spice, with the polished oak influence adding warmth and complexity. On the palate, the wine is supple yet structured, with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a core of dark berries, graphite, and gentle floral notes. Petit Verdot lends an extra touch of depth and spice, while the finish is long, balanced, and graceful. While enjoyable now for its accessibility, it has the structure to develop nicely over the next 8–12 years, gaining further nuance and softness.

Alter Ego comes from Château Palmer’s vineyards in Margaux, where gravelly soils help the Cabernet Sauvignon ripen with precision and aromatic lift, while Merlot contributes richness and texture. The 2022 vintage benefited from careful vineyard management and selective harvesting to preserve freshness and concentration, with vinification carried out to emphasize purity of fruit, balance, and the estate’s signature elegance.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast duck, grilled lamb, beef tenderloin, mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromas to open up and the texture to soften.
