Description

Allegrini Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2023 is a refined expression of one of Italy’s most beloved red wine regions, crafted by one of its most respected producers. Made primarily from Corvina with Rondinella in support, it delivers a vibrant, food‑friendly style that balances fruit, freshness and subtle complexity. As a “Classico Superiore”, this Valpolicella comes from the historic heart of the appellation and is aged longer, giving it extra depth and polish compared to standard bottlings.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows a bright ruby red color with youthful violet reflections, hinting at its freshness and energy. The nose is inviting and expressive, with notes of red cherry, wild strawberry and pomegranate, layered with hints of dried herbs, violet, a touch of black pepper and a gentle whisper of sweet spice. On the palate, the 2023 vintage is medium‑bodied, juicy and elegant, with lively acidity that keeps the fruit lifted and refreshing. Flavors of sour cherry, raspberry and red currant intertwine with subtle notes of dried roses, almond and a faint savory, earthy undertone typical of classic Valpolicella. The tannins are fine and silky, offering structure without heaviness, and the finish is clean, crisp and pleasantly dry. This is a wine made to be enjoyed in its youth for its vibrancy, but it will comfortably evolve over the next 3–5 years, gaining a touch more softness and complexity.

Production
The grapes for Allegrini Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2023 are sourced from estate and trusted partner vineyards in the Classico zone of Valpolicella, in the hills northwest of Verona. Here, well‑drained limestone and clay soils, combined with good elevation and cooling breezes from nearby Lake Garda, help preserve aromatics and natural acidity. Corvina and Rondinella are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to ensure gentle selection in the vineyard. The grapes are traditionally destemmed and softly pressed, followed by temperature‑controlled fermentation in stainless steel to capture the purity of fruit and floral notes. Aging in tank and/or large neutral oak allows the wine to integrate and gain texture, while maintaining the fresh, bright character that defines Allegrini’s house style in Valpolicella.

Food & Serving
This Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with Italian comfort dishes such as tomato‑based pastas, lasagna, pizza with cured meats, and grilled or roasted poultry. It also complements charcuterie, medium‑aged cheeses, risotto with mushrooms, and lighter red‑meat dishes like veal or pork loin. Serve at 16–18°C (about 60–64°F) to highlight its aromatics and freshness; a brief 20–30 minutes in a carafe can help the wine open up its red‑fruit and floral notes, especially in its first couple of years.

Producer
Allegrini is one of the benchmark names of the Veneto, a historic family estate whose roots in Valpolicella date back to the 16th century. Over generations, the Allegrini family has been instrumental in elevating the reputation of Valpolicella wines worldwide, championing both traditional varieties like Corvina and modern, quality‑driven vineyard practices. Known for iconic Amarone and Ripasso wines as well as impeccably made everyday reds, Allegrini has earned consistent international acclaim and helped redefine what Valpolicella can be at all quality levels. Their Valpolicella Classico Superiore reflects this legacy, offering a polished yet authentic taste of the region’s heritage in a style that is both approachable and true to its origins.
