Description
Albert Bichot’s Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 is a superb expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most revered climats in Gevrey-Chambertin. It combines power, finesse and sensual depth, while reflecting the historic prestige and terroir-driven style that have made Grand Cru Burgundy so sought after.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine typically shows a deep ruby hue with youthful vibrancy. The nose is lifted and precise, opening with red berries such as raspberry and redcurrant, alongside violet, before unfolding into more complex notes with time in bottle.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet finely chiselled, with ultra-fine tannins, impressive purity and a seamless sense of balance. Expect a layered finish that is both long and elegant, with the concentration and structure to develop beautifully over time. A few years in the cellar will bring out more savory, spicy and lightly gamey nuances while preserving its remarkable freshness.
Production
The grapes come from Grand Cru vineyards planted in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, one of the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated sites. Albert Bichot is known for working with Burgundy’s top terroirs and for a hands-off philosophy that lets each vineyard speak clearly through the wine.
Harvesting and vinification are carried out with careful handling and minimal intervention, including gravity transfer to cellar to preserve fruit and structure. The wine is aged for 12 to 18 months in oak barrels, using a thoughtful mix of different forest origins and toast levels to add subtle complexity without overshadowing the wine’s natural expression.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for refined dishes such as roast duck, beef filet, game birds, lamb, or mushroom-based cuisine. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and classic Burgundy dishes.
Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended, especially in its youth, to allow the aromas to open fully and the wine to reveal its depth and elegance.
Producer
Albert Bichot is one of Burgundy’s most respected family-owned houses, established in 1831 and now led by the sixth generation, Albéric Bichot. The estate owns six exceptional domains across Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Beaujolais, giving it access to some of the region’s finest terroirs.
With more than 100 hectares of vineyards and a strong focus on site expression, Albert Bichot has become a benchmark producer in Burgundy. Its careful, terroir-led approach and ownership of prized vineyard parcels have earned the house an important place in the region’s wine landscape.
