Description
Alain Jeanniard Quintessence Pinot Nero 2021 is a Burgundy red that lives up to its name: a focused, pure expression of Pinot Noir from one of France’s most revered regions. Crafted in small quantities, it offers a refined balance of elegance, freshness and depth that Burgundy lovers seek out. This cuvée reflects both the character of the 2021 vintage and the traditional craftsmanship that has long defined fine Pinot Noir from Bourgogne.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Quintessence shows a bright, translucent ruby hue with a youthful edge. The nose opens delicately at first, then builds in intensity with red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, followed by subtle notes of rose petal, dried herbs and a gentle hint of spice and forest floor.
On the palate, the wine is precise and medium‑bodied, with juicy red fruit at the core and a fine, chalk‑tinged acidity that keeps everything lively. Silky tannins frame flavors of cherry, cranberry and pomegranate, supported by discreet oak nuances and a faint savory note on the finish. While approachable now for its freshness and purity, it has the structure to develop additional complexity over the next 5–7 years under proper cellar conditions.
Production
Sourced from select Pinot Noir vineyards in Bourgogne, this wine reflects classic Burgundian terroir: limestone- and clay-rich soils that encourage deep-rooted vines and naturally limited yields. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure only healthy, optimally ripe clusters reach the winery. Vinification follows traditional Burgundy methods, with careful sorting, gentle extraction during fermentation, and maturation in French oak barrels to polish the tannins without overwhelming the fruit, resulting in a transparent expression of both grape and place.
Food & Serving
Alain Jeanniard Quintessence Pinot Nero 2021 is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with roast chicken, duck breast, pork tenderloin, veal, or herb‑crusted lamb. It also complements mushroom dishes, truffle pasta, and semi‑soft cheeses like Comté or Tomme. Serve at 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its aromatic finesse and freshness. A brief 20–30 minute decant can help the wine open up, especially in its youth, revealing more floral and spicy nuances.
Producer
Alain Jeanniard is a traditional Burgundian grower‑producer known for crafting artisanal, terroir‑driven Pinot Noir from carefully tended vineyards in the heart of Burgundy. Working on a relatively small scale allows close attention to every stage, from vineyard work to bottling, emphasizing manual care and minimal intervention. The estate’s wines are valued by enthusiasts for their authenticity, balance and sense of place, contributing to Burgundy’s reputation as one of the world’s benchmark regions for Pinot Noir.
