Description

A.H. Riise XO Founders Reserve No. 5 is part of an exclusive six-bottle Collector’s Edition, each crafted as a unique master blend at a distinct alcohol strength. No. 5 stands out with its refined 44.4% ABV and its orange batch indication, signalling both its identity and its place within this limited series of just 13,995 bottles worldwide. Inspired by the historic legacy of A.H. Riise in the former Danish West Indies, this rum pays homage to old-world Caribbean craftsmanship with a modern collector’s twist.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, A.H. Riise XO Founders Reserve No. 5 typically shows a deep amber to mahogany hue with golden highlights, reflecting its time in cask and concentrated sweetness. On the nose, expect a rich and inviting bouquet of caramelized sugar, dark molasses, vanilla, and toffee, layered with dried tropical fruits such as banana and pineapple, hints of orange zest, and gentle baking spices. The palate is opulent and smooth, with a pronounced sweetness that is characteristic of the A.H. Riise style. Flavours of butterscotch, vanilla fudge, and brown sugar unfold alongside notes of ripe mango, candied citrus peel, and a touch of oak spice and cinnamon. The 44.4% ABV provides a warm but well-integrated finish, with lingering impressions of caramel and exotic fruit. As a fully matured rum, it will remain stable in the bottle for many years; while it won’t evolve further like a wine, careful storage will preserve its rich, dessert-like profile over the long term.

Production
A.H. Riise XO Founders Reserve rums take their inspiration from the historic Danish West Indies, where Albert Heinrich Riise originally crafted spirits on the island of St. Thomas. The terroir influence for these blends comes from Caribbean molasses and the warm, humid climate that shapes the maturation of the base rums. Carefully selected barrels of aged Caribbean rum—often distilled from molasses and matured under tropical conditions—are chosen for their concentration and aromatic complexity. For the Founders Reserve Collector’s Edition, the master blender creates six distinct expressions, each at a slightly different strength, with No. 5 bottled at 44.4% ABV. The blend is assembled in small batches, allowed time to harmonize before bottling, and released as a limited edition with its own color-coded batch indication on the label.

Food & Serving
A.H. Riise XO Founders Reserve No. 5 is best enjoyed neat, allowing its full sweetness and layered aromas to unfold slowly in the glass. It pairs beautifully with rich desserts such as crème brûlée, dark chocolate fondants, caramel tarts, or tropical fruit-based pastries, and also complements aged hard cheeses or a fine cigar after dinner. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 18–20°C (64–68°F), in a tulip-shaped rum or brandy glass to concentrate the aromas. Decanting is not necessary, but letting the rum rest in the glass for a few minutes before sipping will enhance its aromatic complexity.

Producer
A.H. Riise traces its roots back to the mid-19th century, when Danish pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise established himself on the island of St. Thomas in the then Danish West Indies. From his pharmacy, Riise began producing bitters and rum-based elixirs that quickly gained a reputation among sailors, traders, and dignitaries, eventually earning royal warrants and a respected place in maritime history. Today, A.H. Riise is celebrated for its opulent, richly flavoured Caribbean rums and liqueurs, often inspired by historic recipes and naval traditions. The brand has become a key player in the premium and collector’s rum segment, known for its limited editions, meticulous blending, and a style that emphasizes generosity, aromatic intensity, and a strong sense of heritage.
