Production
The grapes for this wine come from several parcels in the renowned Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad, a classic Pfalz hillside site with terraces that slope East-South-East. The soils are dominated by weathered Buntsandstein (colored sandstone), which promotes excellent drainage and lends the wine its characteristic clarity and mineral tension. The vines enjoy long, even sun exposure from early morning until late evening, being set slightly away from the forest edge – conditions that foster perfectly ripe, concentrated fruit without excessive heaviness. In autumn, the fruit is carefully hand-harvested in small crates, with strict selection in the vineyard to ensure only healthy, optimally ripe bunches are used. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts, partly in stainless steel and partly in large traditional wooden casks, allowing the Riesling to express both purity of fruit and textural depth. The wine is then matured on its fine lees, enhancing complexity, mouthfeel and aromatic nuance while preserving the elegance and freshness that define Christmann’s style.
