In the glass, the wine shows a pale straw to light lemon hue with green reflections, signalling its youth and freshness. The nose is initially a touch restrained with a subtle, flinty reduction, then opens gradually toward citrus zest, lemon peel and fresh Granny Smith apple, supported by herbal notes of lemon balm and a gentle, earthy-mineral undertone. On the palate, this is a taut, linear and tension-filled Riesling, carried by vibrant acidity and a fine, phenolic grip. Citrus fruit, crisp green apple and cool herbal nuances are wrapped around a salty, stony core, with a delicate, noble bitterness that adds length and sophistication to the finish rather than heaviness. The structure and balance suggest very good aging potential: while already engaging in its youth, it should gain in complexity and textural harmony over the next 5–10 years, as the fruit deepens and the minerality becomes more layered.

Production
The Gimmeldinger Kapellenberg vineyard sits on a rounded hilltop exposed to a constant cool breeze from the nearby Pfälzer Wald, creating pronounced day–night temperature swings that slow acid degradation and preserve aromatic freshness. In the subsoil, limestone lies beneath a mantle of eroded colored sandstone, combining tension and salinity with a fine, spicy minerality. The grapes for this Erstes Gewächs are picked by hand in several selective passes, ensuring only healthy, fully ripe clusters make it to the press. Fermentation and élevage take place in large, traditional wooden casks, a gentle approach that respects the fruit and terroir while adding subtle texture and depth without masking the vineyard’s character.

This Kapellenberg Riesling is a versatile partner at the table, particularly with refined, subtly aromatic dishes. It shines alongside freshwater fish (trout, pike-perch), sushi and sashimi, ceviche, or lightly poached shellfish, and is equally compelling with poultry in light citrus or herb sauces, seasonal asparagus, and vegetable-driven cuisine. Its firm acidity and fine bitterness also make it a smart match for delicately spiced Asian dishes or mild goat and soft cheeses. Serve well chilled but not icy, ideally at 9–11°C (48–52°F).
