Description

Abelé 1757 Champagne Le Sourire de Reims Brut Rosé 2008 is a luxurious, late-disgorged rosé Champagne that captures the precision and elegance of a great vintage. Crafted as a rare Rosé de Saignée and aged for a full decade in the historic chalk cellars beneath Reims, it delivers depth, complexity and a brilliantly expressive character. This is a statement cuvée for serious Champagne lovers, designed for contemplative sipping and refined gastronomy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Le Sourire de Reims Brut Rosé 2008 shows a luminous, deep salmon-pink hue with copper highlights and a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is complex and layered, opening with wild strawberries, ripe raspberry and morello cherry, followed by blood orange zest, rose petals and hints of brioche, cocoa nibs and delicate spice from its extended aging. On the palate, this 100% Pinot Noir rosé is both generous and precise. Juicy red berry fruit and pomegranate are carried by a vibrant, chalk-driven acidity, while subtle notes of dried cranberry, pink grapefruit, toasted hazelnut and pastry cream unfold with air. The texture is silky yet structured, with a vinous, almost Burgundian depth and a long, saline finish that lingers with notes of spice and citrus peel. Thanks to its 10 years of maturation in the cellars, the wine shows beautiful tertiary nuances already, yet it still possesses the freshness and backbone to evolve gracefully for another 5–8 years in a good cellar.

Production
Sourced from carefully selected Pinot Noir vineyards in the heart of the Champagne region, this cuvée reflects the cool climate and chalk-rich soils that define Reims and its surroundings. The terroir, with its deep chalk and limestone subsoils, imparts tension, minerality and aromatic precision to the grapes. Harvesting is carried out by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy bunches are used. As a true Rosé de Saignée, the Pinot Noir berries undergo a brief, tightly controlled maceration of just 72 hours, allowing color and flavor to gently leach from the skins before the rosé juice is drawn off. Following the first fermentation, the wine undergoes its traditional secondary fermentation in bottle and is then aged for 10 years in Abelé 1757’s centuries-old underground cellars, where the constant cool temperature and humidity foster finesse, complexity and an ultra-fine mousse.

Food & Serving
Le Sourire de Reims Brut Rosé 2008 is an outstanding partner for refined cuisine. It shines with dishes such as tuna tartare with citrus, salmon mi-cuit, roast pigeon or duck breast with cherries, as well as delicate lamb dishes, truffled poultry and aged hard cheeses. It can also elevate a course of charcuterie, particularly fine cured hams, or complement sophisticated desserts based on red fruits with moderate sweetness. Serve well-chilled at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic range and texture. Decanting is not essential, but pouring the wine into large tulip-shaped Champagne glasses and allowing it a few minutes in the glass will help it open up and reveal its most complex layers.

Producer
Abelé 1757 is one of Champagne’s historic houses, with roots stretching back to the mid-18th century in the city of Reims. Drawing on generations of savoir-faire, the house has long specialized in elegant, ageworthy Champagnes that showcase the purity of fruit and the singularity of Champagne’s chalk soils. Its centuries-old cellars, carved deep into the chalk beneath Reims, provide an ideal environment for extended lees aging and the development of fine, complex cuvées. The Le Sourire de Reims line stands among Abelé 1757’s most prestigious offerings, recognized for its meticulous craftsmanship and its ability to capture both the character of great vintages and the enduring heritage of the house within the Champagne region.
