Description

A rare and highly concentrated Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese from the celebrated Königsbacher Idig vineyard, produced by the respected Pfalz estate A. Christmann. The exceptionally warm, sunny 2003 vintage encouraged extraordinary ripeness, resulting in a small-format dessert wine with remarkable richness, aromatic intensity and mature complexity. Its provenance from one of the Pfalz’s most distinguished vineyard sites makes it a particularly special choice for collectors and lovers of noble-sweet Riesling.

Tasting Notes
Deep golden in appearance, this mature Trockenbeerenauslese offers an intensely expressive nose of ripe peach, apricot, honey and dried fruit, with the concentration and complexity associated with carefully selected, naturally shrivelled grapes. On the palate, it is lusciously sweet and full-bodied, yet lifted by vibrant Riesling acidity that keeps the wine fresh and precise. The finish is long, layered and persistent, with lingering stone-fruit and honeyed notes. Despite its maturity, the wine has the concentration and balance to continue developing in bottle when carefully stored.

Production
The grapes come from the steep, highly regarded Königsbacher Idig vineyard in the Pfalz, a site known for producing powerful yet finely structured Rieslings. For a Trockenbeerenauslese, only individually selected, overripe and botrytis-affected berries are harvested by hand, allowing sugars and flavours to become exceptionally concentrated. The resulting wine is made in the classic noble-sweet style, preserving the natural balance between intense sweetness and Riesling’s refreshing acidity.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. This elegant sweet Riesling is a natural match for fruit-based desserts, apricot or peach tart, crème brûlée and blue or washed-rind cheeses; it can also be enjoyed on its own as a refined aperitif or after-dinner wine. Decanting is generally not necessary, although carefully opening and allowing the bottle a short period in the glass can reveal additional aromatic depth.

Producer
A. Christmann is one of the established names of the Mittelhaardt in the Pfalz, with a long-standing reputation for expressive Rieslings from distinguished vineyard sites. The estate’s wines are valued for combining the region’s warm, sunlit character with precision, freshness and a strong sense of place. Königsbacher Idig is among the area’s most prestigious sites, and a mature Trockenbeerenauslese from this vineyard represents an especially rare and luxurious expression of both the estate and the vintage.
