Description
Domaine Nicolas Millet Sancerre Les Grands Champs 2022 is a refined expression of Sauvignon Blanc from Bué, in the southern part of the Sancerre appellation. Produced by the ninth generation of the Millet family, whose estate dates back to the 18th century, it combines the region’s characteristic freshness with a rounded, carefully developed texture.
Tasting Notes
Bright and pale in appearance, this Sancerre opens with lifted aromas of citrus, white flowers and fresh orchard fruit, complemented by subtle mineral nuances. On the palate, it is fresh and precise, with flavours of lemon, green apple and pear supported by lively acidity and a clean, mineral finish.
The extended maturation in stainless steel gives the wine additional texture while preserving its purity and freshness. It is delicious in its youth, but the 2022 vintage should develop further complexity over the next three to five years when properly stored.
Production
The domaine is located in Bué, in the southern section of Sancerre, and farms Sauvignon Blanc for its white wines alongside Pinot Noir for Sancerre Rouge and Rosé. The grapes are gently handled and subjected to a slow pneumatic pressing before fermentation and maturation in stainless-steel tanks for 10 months. This approach allows the wine to retain the bright varietal character and freshness associated with Sancerre.
Food & Serving
Serve chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its citrus-driven freshness makes it an excellent partner for oysters, mussels, prawns, grilled fish, sushi and fresh goat’s cheese, as well as salads with herbs or citrus-based dressings. Decanting is not normally necessary, although opening the bottle 15–20 minutes before serving can allow its aromas to unfold.
Producer
The Millet family has been established in Bué since the 1700s, and Domaine Nicolas Millet represents the estate’s ninth generation. Nicolas Millet began working at the domaine in 2008 and now oversees approximately 14.88 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and 4.37 hectares of Pinot Noir. The estate’s combination of long family heritage and modern, precise cellar practices makes it a notable producer within the Sancerre region.
