The 2024 Lorch Kapellenberg Riesling trocken from Weingut Alexander Schregel is a terroir-driven white wine from one of the Rheingau’s most distinctive steep sites. Grown on Schiefer and quartzite soils, it combines precision, freshness, and a distinctly cool mineral character that reflects its hillside origin near the Rhine.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass with a bright, youthful sheen, this Riesling opens with aromas of lime, citrus zest, green apple, and delicate herbal notes, all framed by a subtle slate spice. On the palate it is taut and focused, with lively acidity, a salty mineral edge, and a long, elegant finish that stays cool and precise. The wine has the structure and freshness to age gracefully over the next several years, developing more complexity and depth with time.

Production
The grapes come from the steep Kapellenberg vineyard in Lorch, where the exposed slope and rocky Schiefer- and quartzite-rich soils create naturally low-yielding vines and wines with strong mineral expression. The fruit was carefully hand-harvested and spontaneously fermented, then matured partly in stainless steel and partly in large-format oak to preserve purity, structure, and a clear sense of place.

Food & Serving
This Riesling is an excellent match for fish, shellfish, and refined seafood dishes, as well as Asian cuisine and goat cheese. Serve it well chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a brief aeration can help if opened very young.
