2024 Hallgarten Riesling trocken from Weingut Alexander Schregel is a finely etched Ortswein from one of the Rheingau’s coolest and most elegant sites. Grown around Hallgarten and crafted to reflect purity, precision, and origin, it captures the region’s classic Riesling character in a sleek, modern style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, pale straw color with a crisp, youthful sheen. The nose is delicate and expressive, offering citrus, green apple, white blossoms, and a cool herbal spice layered over subtle mineral notes. On the palate, the wine is linear, fresh, and precise, with lively acidity carrying clear fruit and a distinctly salty, mineral finish. Its balance and structure suggest good short- to medium-term aging potential, where it should gain a little extra complexity while retaining its vibrant freshness.

Production
The grapes come from the high-lying vineyards around Hallgarten, where kalk and slate soils contribute tension, finesse, and a pronounced mineral edge. Harvested by hand at selective ripeness, the fruit is gently pressed and spontaneously fermented with native yeasts. The wine is then matured in stainless steel and partly in large-format wood to preserve clarity while adding subtle texture and structure.

Food & Serving
This Riesling pairs beautifully with fish, shellfish, light seasonal dishes, and delicate Asian cuisine, and it also works very well with goat cheese. Serve it well chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary, though a short aeration can help open the wine if enjoyed very young.
