2023 St. Michael-Eppan Sanct Valentin Pinot Grigio

The 2023 St. Michael-Eppan Sanct Valentin Pinot Grigio is a refined, full-bodied expression of Pinot Gris from Alto Adige in northern Italy. Part of the winery’s prestigious Sanct Valentin range, it combines the grape’s natural freshness with impressive texture, concentration and ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
Bright straw yellow in appearance, this Pinot Grigio opens with an elegant bouquet of ripe pear, yellow apple and white peach, complemented by floral nuances and subtle hints of almonds and minerality. The palate is broad and well-structured, balancing juicy stone-fruit flavours with fresh acidity and a gently creamy texture. A precise mineral finish adds length and lift, making the wine enjoyable now while offering the potential to develop further complexity over the next several years when properly stored.

Production
The grapes are sourced from selected vineyards around Eppan in Alto Adige, where cool Alpine influences, sunny exposures and mineral-rich soils help create wines with both richness and freshness. The grapes are carefully harvested at optimum ripeness before gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation. Maturation on the fine lees, with the use of both stainless steel and carefully integrated wood, contributes to the wine’s rounded texture and layered character while preserving its varietal freshness.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 10–12°C. Its generous texture and crisp finish make it an excellent partner for grilled or roasted fish, shellfish, seafood pasta, creamy risottos and poultry. It also pairs beautifully with mildly mature cheeses and dishes featuring herbs or light cream sauces. Decanting is not essential, although a short period of aeration in the glass can help reveal additional aromatic depth.
