The 2023 Prosper Maufoux Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Chardonnay offers a fresh, expressive introduction to Burgundy’s celebrated white-wine tradition. Sourced from the cooler, higher-altitude vineyards of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, it combines lively orchard-fruit character with the subtle mineral profile associated with the limestone-rich landscapes of the Côte de Beaune.

Tasting Notes
Bright and pale gold in appearance, this Chardonnay opens with inviting aromas of green apple, pear, citrus zest and white flowers, supported by a delicate mineral freshness. On the palate, it is crisp and well-balanced, with flavours of ripe apple, lemon and stone fruit, a clean, refreshing acidity and a lightly creamy texture that adds breadth without weighing it down. The finish is precise and gently saline, making the wine particularly approachable in its youth. It is best enjoyed over the next two to four years, while its freshness and fruit-forward character are at their most vibrant.

Production
The Hautes-Côtes de Beaune vineyards lie on elevated slopes west of the main Côte de Beaune, where cooler temperatures and limestone- and clay-influenced soils help preserve Chardonnay’s natural acidity. The grapes are vinified to highlight purity, freshness and regional character, with careful cellar work allowing the fruit and mineral expression of the appellation to remain at the forefront.

Food & Serving
Serve chilled at approximately 10–12°C. This versatile Burgundy pairs beautifully with oysters, mussels, grilled fish, seafood salads and roasted chicken, while its fresh acidity also complements goat’s cheese and light vegetable dishes. Decanting is not necessary, although opening the bottle 15–20 minutes before serving can allow its aromas to unfold.
