The 2023 Lorch Pfaffenwies Riesling trocken from Weingut Breuer is a beautifully precise single-vineyard wine from one of the Rheingau’s coolest and most mineral-driven sites. Tasting Notes
Pale in the glass with a bright, crystalline sheen, this Riesling opens with cool, lifted aromas of lime, citrus zest, white peach and a subtle herbal, slate-inflected spice. The palate is taut and focused, with vibrant acidity, salty minerality and a linear, elegant structure that gives the wine real drive. The finish is long, clean and precise, leaving a refreshing impression of citrus, stone and delicate herbal notes. Production
Pfaffenwies is a steep vineyard site in Lorch, where cool winds and a long ripening season help preserve freshness and aromatic detail. The soils of slate and quartzite lend the wine its distinctive mineral tension and unmistakable sense of place. The grapes are harvested by hand, then spontaneously fermented and matured in large wooden casks with extended lees contact, a vinification approach that adds texture, balance and complexity while keeping the style pure and terroir-focused.
