Description

The 2023 Grünhäuser Pinot Noir VDP.Erstes Gewächs from Weingut Maximin Grünhaus is a finely tuned Mosel Pinot Noir that brings together elegance, mineral depth, and a cool, precise style. Drawn from the schist-rich slopes around the Abtsberg, it reflects both the estate’s centuries-old heritage and its modern interpretation of Ruwer terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a bright, refined ruby color. The nose opens with cherry and raspberry, followed by floral accents, violets, herbs, and a subtle hint of black tea. On the palate, it is silky and graceful, with fresh acidity, polished tannins, and a clear, lively fruit profile. The finish is long, mineral, and refreshing, with enough structure to develop beautifully over the next several years.

Production
The grapes come from steep schist vineyards around the Abtsberg in the Ruwer section of the Mosel, where the cool climate and mineral soils shape the wine’s fresh, focused character. Harvested by hand with strict selection, the wine undergoes traditional maceration, partly with whole clusters, and is matured in French barriques, some made from Grünhaus oak, to balance fruit, spice, and structure.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is an excellent match for duck, veal, mushroom dishes, fish, and mature soft cheeses. Serve it slightly chilled at around 15–17°C, and decanting is optional but can help the wine open up if enjoyed young.

Producer
Weingut Maximin Grünhaus is one of the Mosel’s most historic estates, with more than 1,000 years of winemaking tradition. Located in the Ruwer, it is widely respected for its steep slate vineyards and for producing wines of precision, freshness, and unmistakable regional character, with its Pinot Noir line showcasing a modern and ambitious side of the estate.
