The 2022 Hoe-Steen Chenin Blanc from David & Nadia is a standout single-vineyard white from Swartland, one of South Africa’s most exciting and terroir-driven wine regions. Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chenin Blanc shows a bright, luminous profile with remarkable clarity and finesse. The nose unfolds with quince, yellow apple, pear, and white peach, followed by citrus peel, herbs, and white flowers; with air, notes of honey, flint, almond, and saline minerality emerge. On the palate, it is focused, layered, and beautifully textured, with vibrant acidity giving lift and tension to the wine’s ripe fruit and stony core. The finish is long, dry, and elegantly salty, with enough depth and structure to age gracefully for many years, developing even more nuance and complexity over time.

Production
The Hoe-Steen vineyard is a prized old-vine site in Swartland, planted on weathered granite soils that contribute to the wine’s vivid mineral edge and linear structure. The grapes are hand-harvested with careful selection, then fermented with native yeasts and handled with minimal intervention to preserve the character of the vineyard. The wine is matured for several months on fine lees in used oak barrels, adding texture and complexity without obscuring freshness or purity.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for scallops, lobster, stone bass, and other shellfish, as well as truffle chicken, veal, and Mediterranean-style vegetable dishes. Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and consider decanting briefly if you want to open up its aromatic layers and mineral complexity.
