Stumm & Klein’s 2022 Chardonnay trocken from Rheinhessen is a precise, mineral-driven white wine that showcases the elegance of limestone-grown Chardonnay. Founded in 2019, the estate has quickly earned a reputation for producing high-class wines with a clear sense of place and a refined, Burgundian-inspired style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chardonnay is likely bright and inviting, with a polished, pale-golden hue. The nose opens with white blossoms, ripe pear, and yellow apple, layered with citrus zest, brioche, and toasted hazelnut. On the palate it is juicy yet taut, combining creamy texture with vibrant acidity and a distinct chalky minerality. The finish is long, precise, and subtly saline, giving the wine impressive drive and the structure to age gracefully over the coming years.

Production
The grapes come from the Kaisergarten in Gau-Weinheim, where limestone marl and limestone-rich soils with a high carbonate content lend the wine its cool, saline mineral edge and longevity. Harvested selectively by hand, the whole bunches are gently pressed, then matured for 18 months on full lees in used barriques before being bottled unfiltered. The oak remains understated, serving mainly to add texture and structure rather than overt wood character.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with fish, poultry, seafood, and goat cheese, and it can also be enjoyed on its own as a more serious, contemplative white. Serve it slightly chilled at around 10–12°C; decanting is not essential, though a short aeration can help the wine open up in the glass.
