Description

The 2021 Brandini Barolo del Comune di La Morra captures the elegant, perfumed side of Barolo that La Morra is famed for. Crafted from organically farmed Nebbiolo, this is a refined, terroir-driven expression with the structure for aging and the charm to be enjoyed in its youth with proper aeration. A focused, village-designated Barolo, it highlights the finesse and lifted aromatics that distinguish La Morra from the more muscular corners of the appellation.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Barolo shows a luminous, transparent garnet hue with brick-tinged edges that will deepen and evolve over time. The nose is finely etched and complex: wild cherry, crushed raspberry and dried rose petals are layered with notes of violet, blood orange peel, anise, licorice, and a touch of cedar, tar and underbrush as it opens. On the palate, the 2021 is vertical and precise, with Nebbiolo’s hallmark tannins wrapped in La Morra’s signature silkiness. Red berries and sour cherry lead, followed by pomegranate, spice box, savory herbs and a mineral, almost saline backbone. The tannins are firm yet polished, with bright acidity carrying the wine toward a long, floral and subtly savory finish. While already appealing for those who enjoy youthful Barolo energy, this vintage has clear aging potential: expect a graceful evolution over 10–15 years, with the bouquet gaining in truffle, dried flower and forest-floor complexity.

Production
Sourced exclusively from vineyards within the commune of La Morra, this Barolo draws on calcareous marl and clay-limestone soils that naturally favor finesse, aromatic lift and fine-grained tannins. Brandini farms organically, focusing on low yields and careful canopy management to ensure optimal ripening of Nebbiolo while preserving freshness. Grapes are harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, with strict selection both in the vineyard and at the winery. Fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled tanks using native or carefully selected yeasts, with extended maceration on the skins to extract color, tannin and aroma without excess harshness. The wine is then aged in large oak casks (and in some cases a portion in smaller barrels, depending on the cuvée philosophy), allowing slow oxygen exchange that polishes the tannins while keeping the varietal character and La Morra terroir clearly in focus before bottling and further bottle rest.

Food & Serving
This Barolo is a natural partner for richly flavored dishes that can meet its structure and aromatic depth. Think classic Piedmontese cuisine—tajarin with ragù, braised veal shank, brasato al Barolo, or truffle-accented risottos—as well as roasted lamb, game birds, mushroom-based dishes, and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or mature Pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both aromatic complexity and textural finesse. In its youth, decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to soften the tannins and allow the bouquet to unfurl; as it ages and gains tertiary notes, a shorter decant of 30–45 minutes is usually sufficient.
