Tasting Notes
In the glass, it presents a bright, finely textured profile with a clear, luminous color that hints at freshness and tension. The nose opens with grapefruit, apple peel and herbs, layered with subtle mineral spice and a clean, stony edge. On the palate, the wine is taut, focused and impressively structured, with vibrant acidity carrying its citrus and orchard-fruit notes through a long, elegant finish. Thanks to its old vines, extended lees aging and overall balance, it has the concentration and stability to age gracefully for several years, gaining even more nuance over time.

Production
The wine comes from the Z Steinbruch parcel in Südsteiermark, where over 40-year-old vines grow on coral and shell limestone soils. These conditions contribute freshness, tension and a distinctly mineral expression, while the 2020 vintage delivered particularly clear and well-defined wines thanks to a sunny autumn and ideal ripening conditions. Harvested by hand with careful selection, the wine underwent spontaneous fermentation and then matured for 36 months on the fine lees in neutral oak barrels. It was bottled unfiltered and with only minimal sulphur addition, resulting in a biodynamic-leaning, artisanal style that prioritizes texture, transparency and authenticity.

Food & Serving
This Welschriesling pairs beautifully with zander, mushroom risotto, lamb dishes and pumpkin with sheep’s cheese. It is also a strong match for goat cheese and aged hard cheeses. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C; decanting is not necessary, though a short opening in the glass can help reveal its layered aromas.
