The 2020 Rüdesheim Berg Schlossberg Riesling trocken from Weingut Breuer is a distinguished single-vineyard wine from one of the Rheingau’s most dramatic and demanding sites. Sourced from steep slopes of schist and quartzite, it combines power, precision and intense mineral character in a classic dry Riesling style. Schlossberg is regarded as one of Germany’s most significant vineyard sites, and this cuvée reflects its exceptional terroir and ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
Bright and focused in appearance, the wine offers an expressive nose of citrus fruit, yellow peach and fresh herbs, underpinned by a distinctive, spicy schist-like minerality. On the palate, it is powerful yet finely detailed, with vibrant acidity, impressive structure and a pronounced saline character. The finish is exceptionally long, deep and complex, balancing ripe fruit with freshness and precision. A structured 2020 vintage, it is already compelling but will develop further nuance and harmony with bottle age. With careful cellaring, it should mature gracefully over many years.

Production
The grapes come from the steep Berg Schlossberg vineyard, where schist and quartzite soils contribute pronounced minerality, tension and depth. They were hand-harvested with strict selection before undergoing spontaneous fermentation in large wooden casks. The wine was then matured for an extended period on its full lees, preserving texture while allowing the terroir-driven character to develop with precision.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 10–12°C. This Riesling is an excellent match for refined fish dishes, shellfish and crustaceans, while its acidity and mineral structure also make it highly versatile with Asian cuisine and poultry. Decanting is not essential, but a short decant or generous aeration in the glass can help reveal its depth, particularly when enjoyed young.
