The 2020 Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Spätlese trocken from Koehler-Ruprecht is a site-driven Pfalz Riesling with real depth and personality. Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass, it opens with aromas of ripe peach, apricot, citrus peel, and a subtle herbal spice, all underpinned by a chalky, limestone-driven mineral edge. On the palate it is concentrated and structured, yet remarkably precise, with bright acidity, salty tension, and a long, elegant finish that lingers on spice and stone. This is a wine built for the cellar: while already expressive, it has the density and balance to develop beautifully over time, gaining complexity, depth, and even more layered mineral character with age.

Production
The wine comes from Kallstadter Saumagen, a top cru in the Pfalz known for its limestone-rich soils and warm microclimate, both of which help produce Rieslings of concentration and strong aging potential. Grapes were selectively hand-harvested, then vinified in a traditional manner with spontaneous fermentation and maturation in large oak casks to preserve structure, authenticity, and a classic, unadorned style.
