Description
Bolla Le Poiane Amarone della Valpolicella is a richly styled Venetian red that showcases the depth and character of one of Italy’s most famous wine regions. Made by the historic Bolla estate, it brings together power, concentration, and the signature Amarone elegance that has made these wines so admired for generations.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby to garnet hue, hinting at its concentration and structure. The nose opens with ripe dark cherries, dried plums, blackberries, and baked spices, layered with subtle notes of cocoa, tobacco, and a gentle savoury warmth.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with generous dark fruit, dried fig, sweet spice, and a long, warming finish. Amarone wines like this are built for development, and the 2020 vintage should reward cellaring, gaining complexity over the next several years.
Production
Produced in Veneto, in the Valpolicella zone, this wine reflects the area’s distinctive hillside vineyards and the traditional appassimento method associated with Amarone. The grapes are typically harvested and then dried to concentrate flavor and sugar before vinification, resulting in greater richness, depth, and alcohol. The style is shaped by the region’s calcareous soils and temperate climate, which help preserve balance and freshness in the finished wine.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with rich, hearty dishes such as braised beef, venison, roast lamb, mushroom risotto, or mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour to allow the aromatics to open and the structure to soften.
Producer
Bolla is one of Veneto’s most recognized wine names, with a long history dating back to the early 20th century and a strong reputation for classic regional styles. The producer has played an important role in introducing Valpolicella and Amarone to a broader international audience, and remains closely associated with dependable quality and tradition in the region.
