Alión 2020 is a modern benchmark from Ribera del Duero, crafted by the renowned Álvarez family, the force behind Vega Sicilia. Made from old-vine Tempranillo and shaped by meticulous cellar work, it combines power, precision, and elegance in a distinctly contemporary style.

Tasting Notes
Deep and vibrant in the glass, the wine shows a dark ruby hue with impressive concentration. The nose opens with blackberries, blueberries, and ripe plums, layered with notes of chocolate, liquorice, and subtle spice from the oak. On the palate it is dense, structured, and finely focused, with polished tannins and a lively backbone of acidity that keeps the wine fresh and balanced. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, and the wine has the depth and structure to age gracefully for many years.

Production
Alión comes from select sites in Pesquera, Padilla, and Moradillo in Ribera del Duero, where limestone-rich sedimentary soils with gravel and sand contribute tension, balance, and depth. The grapes come from more than 30-year-old Tempranillo vines and are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before undergoing cold maceration and spontaneous fermentation. The wine is then aged for 12–14 months in new French oak barriques, followed by further bottle ageing to bring harmony between fruit, structure, and wood.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled or roasted beef, lamb, game, and other richly flavoured dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if drinking young to allow the wine to open and show its full aromatic range.
