The 2018 Rüdesheim Berg Schlossberg Riesling trocken from Weingut Breuer is a benchmark single-vineyard Riesling from one of Germany’s most prized steep slopes. Grown in the iconic Berg Schlossberg site in the Rheingau, it combines precision, mineral tension, and impressive depth in a style that is both classic and age-worthy.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass, this Riesling opens with a cool, focused bouquet of citrus, peach, and fresh herbs, backed by a distinct slate-driven spice. On the palate it is powerful yet razor-sharp, with vibrant acidity, salty minerality, and a long, layered finish that keeps unfolding with time. The wine’s structure and concentration suggest excellent aging potential. While already expressive, it should develop added complexity over the next decade or more, gaining nuance, depth, and a more rounded texture.

Production
The grapes come from the steep, highly regarded Berg Schlossberg vineyard in Rüdesheim, where slate and quartzite soils create the wine’s signature minerality, tension, and depth. The fruit was hand-harvested and carefully selected, then fermented spontaneously in large oak casks and matured on the full lees to build structure, balance, and complexity.

Food & Serving
An excellent match for fine fish, shellfish, and elegant seafood dishes, as well as poultry and refined Asian cuisine. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help the wine open up if enjoyed young.
