Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, concentrated colour with remarkable clarity and polish. The nose is layered and complex, unfolding cassis, black cherry, plum, and blackberry alongside cedar, tobacco, leather, graphite, spice, and subtle balsamic and truffle nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet graceful, with finely grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and impressive concentration that carries through to a long, mineral-driven finish. This is a wine of both immediate nobility and exceptional future promise. While already showing poise and detail, the 2014 Único has the structure and depth to develop beautifully over decades, gaining even more complexity with bottle age.

Production
Vega Sicilia’s vineyards in Ribera del Duero benefit from a distinctive mix of limestone, clay, and gravel soils, ideal for producing wines of precision, structure, and longevity. For Único, only the best grapes from the vintage are selected, and vinification is carried out with great care and a traditional, exacting approach. The wine then undergoes an exceptionally long maturation in French and American barriques as well as large wooden casks. This extended ageing is central to the wine’s identity, allowing all components to integrate slowly and harmoniously before release.

Food & Serving
This is an outstanding match for lamb rack, dry-aged beef, braised beef, game, Ibérico pork, truffle dishes, and mature hard cheeses. It also has the depth and balance to be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative wine for special occasions. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is highly recommended, ideally for several hours, to let the wine fully open and reveal its layers.
