Description
The 2012 Cuvée des Hussards Brut from Frerejean Frères is a prestige Champagne from Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, crafted to showcase the finesse and precision of this celebrated terroir. With over eight years of lees aging and a partial oak élevage, it brings together depth, structure, and remarkable elegance in a style made for special occasions.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a refined, luminous profile with a steady, fine mousse. The nose unfolds with citrus, brioche, toasted nuts, and delicate white flowers, leading into a palate that is both powerful and precise, with creamy texture, mineral tension, and impressive freshness.
The finish is long, layered, and elegant, leaving behind a subtle saline edge and nuanced maturity. Thanks to its structure and complexity, this is a Champagne with excellent aging potential, capable of evolving beautifully over the coming years.
Production
This cuvée comes from Grand Cru sites in Avize, at the heart of the Côte des Blancs, where chalky soils lend the wine its signature purity and drive. The grapes are carefully selected, then vinified using traditional bottle fermentation, with part of the wine aged in wood to add texture, complexity, and depth before spending more than eight years on lees.
Food & Serving
Serve at 8-10°C to allow its aromatics and texture to fully open. It pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, and poultry in delicate cream-based sauces, and it is equally compelling alongside aged Comté or truffle dishes. Decanting is not necessary, but a few minutes in the glass can help reveal its full aromatic complexity.
