+ Read moreWeingut Stefan Meyer Weißer Burgunder Rosengarten Bio 2021 is a single-vineyard Pinot Blanc from one of the most storied sites in the southern Pfalz, crafted in a precise yet generous style. Certified organic and vinified with minimal intervention, it combines the ripeness of a sun-drenched south-facing slope with a striking, cool-climate freshness. The Rosengarten site in Rhodt is officially classified as a natural monument, and its long history of quality viticulture is reflected in the depth, finesse, and age‑worthiness of this wine.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Rosengarten Weißer Burgunder shows a bright, pale straw to light lemon color with subtle green reflections, hinting at its freshness and youth. The nose is finely etched and layered: ripe yellow apple, pear, and quince are joined by white peach, citrus zest, and cool herbal notes, with delicate floral tones and a subtle, elegant framing of vanilla, toasted hazelnut, and fine spice from the barrique. On the palate, the wine is precise and focused yet textural, with a creamy, lees‑derived mouthfeel balanced by a vibrant, linear acidity typical of this higher-lying, breezy part of the Rosengarten slope. Flavors of juicy pear, baked apple, and stone fruit mingle with lemon curd, crushed stone, and a gentle saline edge, while the wood influence shows as fine-grained structure and discreet spice rather than overt oakiness. The finish is long, dry, and mouthwatering, suggesting an aging potential of around 5–7 years from vintage, during which the wine will gain even more nutty, brioche and honeyed complexity while retaining its core of freshness.
Production
The Rosengarten vineyard in Rhodt is a sun-favored, south-facing slope in the Pfalz, recognized as a natural monument for its unique landscape and historical importance. Stefan Meyer farms several parcels here, especially in the slightly higher, cooler sections where the grapes retain excellent acidity despite the generous sunshine. The soils are dominated by loess and loess‑loam, which contribute both water retention and a fine, silky texture to the wines. High-density plantings of over 9,000 vines per hectare, using small-berried French Pinot Blanc clones, force the vines into deeper rooting and natural competition, resulting in lower yields and greater concentration. The grapes are harvested by hand to allow strict selection in the vineyard, then fermented spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine matures for up to twelve months on the full lees in barriques, including a portion of new oak, adding texture and complexity. Bottling is carried out without filtration, preserving maximum expression of terroir and giving the wine a subtly layered, almost Burgundian character.
Food & Serving
This Weißer Burgunder Rosengarten Bio 2021 is an excellent companion to refined, subtly flavored dishes where texture and nuance matter. It pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, veal in light cream sauces, grilled or poached white fish, scallops, crayfish, and butter‑based seafood dishes, as well as with risotto, mushroom dishes, asparagus, and delicate vegetable terrines. It also works very well with mild to medium-aged cow’s milk cheeses and soft goat cheeses. Serve at around 9–11 °C to highlight its precision and minerality; a slightly warmer temperature (12–13 °C) will bring out more of the creamy and nutty notes. Decanting for 20–30 minutes is advisable, especially in the first few years after release, to allow the wine to open up aromatically and integrate its subtle oak influence.
