Sourced from parcels in the renowned Reiterpfad vineyard, it’s technically from a “Große Lage”, though the brothers Seckinger currently release it at an Erste-Lage level while the vineyards complete their conversion. This is a crystalline, terroir-driven Riesling that marries natural-wine philosophy with the precision and clarity of classic German Qualitätswein.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a pale lemon color with greenish reflections, hinting at freshness and youth. The nose is initially restrained rather than showy, opening slowly with notes of yellow stone fruit, subtle ripe apple and a touch of citrus peel. With air, delicate herbal nuances, a fine smokiness, gentle leesy tones and a whisper of oxidative complexity emerge, adding layers without ever feeling heavy. On the palate, this Riesling is slim, taut and ultra-focused, driven more by mineral precision than by fruit opulence. A firm, linear acidity gives it a nervy, almost wiry structure, while the stony, saline core pushes through to a long, detailed finish. Despite its lean frame, there is impressive pressure and intensity on the mid-palate, suggesting serious depth beneath the finesse. The 16 months on full lees, combined with its natural vinification, lend quiet texture and complexity, and the wine should develop beautifully over the next 5–8 years, gaining more aromatic breadth and harmony with bottle age.
Production
The grapes come from Seckinger’s parcels in the famed Ruppertsberg Reiterpfad, a historically important single vineyard in the Pfalz, here located close to the forest, which provides a cooling influence and helps preserve tension and aromatic freshness. Farmed according to natural and low-intervention principles during its conversion phase, the fruit is harvested carefully by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and healthy bunches. In the cellar, the grapes are pressed as whole clusters, followed by a very slow, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine then spends 16 months on full lees, without filtration, fining or the addition of sulfur during élevage; only a small dose is used at bottling. The result is a clear, precise natural wine that still meets the strict standards of German Qualitätswein classification.
Food & Serving
This is a highly versatile food wine that shines with dishes where freshness and detail are important. Try it with lightly grilled or poached white fish, ceviche, sushi, or shellfish such as oysters, mussels and scallops. Its herbal and smoky nuances also make it an excellent partner for vegetable-driven cuisine—think asparagus, fennel, leeks, or herb-infused salads—and for lightly spiced Asian dishes or modern, minimalist plates. Serve well chilled but not icy, ideally around 9–11°C (48–52°F), to allow the mineral character and subtle aromatics to unfold. A brief splash-decant or opening the bottle 20–30 minutes before serving can help the wine stretch its legs and reveal more of its fine detail.

Weingut Seckinger is a dynamic, younger-generation estate in the Pfalz, run by the Seckinger brothers, who have quickly gained a reputation for their uncompromising, terroir-focused and largely natural approach to winemaking. Working primarily with organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards, they seek to express the nuances of each site with minimal intervention in the cellar. Their wines—from village bottlings up to top single-vineyard cuvées like Ruppertsberg Reiterpfad—have become reference points for a new wave of Pfalz Riesling: vibrant, precise, and texturally complex. In a relatively short time, Weingut Seckinger has earned significant attention from sommeliers and critics alike, positioning the estate as one of the most exciting names in contemporary German wine.
