Krug Rosé 27ème Edition En étui Krug
KrugKrug Rosé 27ème Édition is Krug’s singular expression of rosé Champagne: rich, precise and extraordinarily complex, yet effortlessly elegant. Crafted as a multi-vintage blend rather than a traditional vintage cuvée, it captures a broad spectrum of aromas and flavors that only time and meticulous blending can deliver. Presented in its signature gift box (en étui), this is a Champagne that feels as at home at a grand celebration as it does at an intimate dinner for two. Unlike most rosés, Krug Rosé 27ème Édition is built from a wide palette of reserve wines and carefully selected still red Pinot Noir, giving it both depth and finesse. The house’s legendary extended aging on lees adds layers of texture and nuance, making it one of the most gastronomic rosé Champagnes on the market. Since its first release in the 1980s, Krug Rosé has challenged conventions in Champagne, becoming a benchmark for luxury rosé with true cellar-worthy character.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Krug Rosé 27ème Édition shows a luminous, delicate rose-gold hue with copper highlights, crowned by a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is intensely expressive and layered: wild red berries, ripe citrus, and blood orange intertwine with notes of brioche, honey, rose petals, and subtle exotic spice. With a little air, more savory and complex tones emerge—dried flowers, delicate smoke, and a hint of pastry cream. On the palate, this Champagne is both powerful and refined, with a creamy yet precise texture and beautifully integrated acidity. Flavors of raspberry, wild strawberry, pink grapefruit, and redcurrant unfold into deeper notes of almond, nougat, pastry, and a touch of peppery spice from the added still red Pinot Noir. The finish is long, saline, and subtly chalky, reflecting its Champagne origins. While it drinks beautifully upon release, the structure and concentration suggest an aging potential of 10–15 years in a cool cellar, during which the wine will gain even more complexity and harmony.
Production
Krug Rosé 27ème Édition is born from the chalk-rich soils of Champagne, predominantly around the Marne where Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier achieve both ripeness and tension. The cool continental climate, combined with the region’s distinctive chalk subsoils, imparts the characteristic freshness, minerality, and precision that underpin Krug’s style. Grapes are harvested parcel by parcel, with a focus on the individual character of each plot, and only the finest lots—those that meet Krug’s exacting standards—are retained for the Grande Cuvée and Rosé blends. The heart of Krug Rosé lies in its assemblage: a base of several years of wines is carefully blended with an extensive selection of reserve wines from Krug’s vast library, often spanning a decade or more. To this, a small proportion of still red Pinot Noir from specially selected plots is added, providing color, structure, and a subtle tannic backbone without overwhelming delicacy. Fermentation traditionally takes place in small oak barrels, which lend texture and complexity rather than overt oak flavor. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and is aged for many years on its lees in Krug’s cool cellars, far exceeding the legal minimum for Champagne, before disgorgement and release.
Food & Serving
Krug Rosé 27ème Édition is an extraordinarily versatile gastronomic Champagne, capable of elevating both refined and boldly flavored dishes. It pairs beautifully with tuna or salmon tartare, grilled lobster, or seared scallops, but also stands up effortlessly to richer cuisine such as duck breast with cherries, pigeon, or veal with morel cream sauce. Its subtle spice and red-fruited depth make it a superb match for delicately spiced Asian dishes, charcuterie, aged hard cheeses, and even dishes featuring truffle or earthy mushrooms. For optimal enjoyment, serve at 9–11°C (48–52°F) in a generously sized white wine or Champagne glass to allow the aromas to fully develop. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving, or pouring the first small glass and letting the wine sit, will help it unfold. This is a Champagne that rewards slow, attentive sipping over the course of a meal.
Producer
Founded in 1843 by Johann-Joseph Krug in Reims, Krug is one of Champagne’s most revered houses, celebrated for its uncompromising craftsmanship and its philosophy of creating only prestige-level cuvées. From the outset, Krug’s vision was to craft the very best Champagne every single year, independent of vintage variation—a radical idea at the time that led to the concept of the multi-vintage prestige blend. Over generations, the house has become synonymous with intensity, precision, and longevity, with each cuvée assembled from a remarkable collection of reserve wines and vinified parcel by parcel. Within Champagne, Krug holds a near-mythical status, consistently earning top scores and recognition from critics and collectors alike. Its cellars in Reims safeguard an extraordinary library of wines, enabling the house to maintain its signature style across editions. Krug Rosé, introduced relatively late in the house’s history, quickly became a reference point for serious, cellar-worthy rosé Champagne—more than a simple apéritif wine, it is a true gastronomic Champagne in line with Krug’s reputation for depth and complexity.
