Production
Calon Ségur’s vineyards lie at the northern end of the Médoc on deep gravel soils over clay and limestone, a terroir that naturally suits Cabernet Sauvignon and contributes to the estate’s distinctive power and longevity. The blend in 2011 is based on Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Petit Verdot, all harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness. Grapes are hand-picked and rigorously sorted before a traditional Bordeaux vinification: temperature-controlled fermentation in vats, followed by extended maceration for structure and color. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels (a significant proportion new) for around 18–20 months, with careful élevage to refine tannins and integrate oak without masking the vineyard character.
