Description
Château Thivin’s Côte de Brouilly Les Sept Vignes 2023 is a polished expression of one of Beaujolais’ most admired crus, bringing together lift, precision, and mineral depth. Sourced from seven distinct vineyard parcels on the slopes of Mont Brouilly, it captures both the character of Gamay and the elegance that has made Château Thivin a benchmark producer in the region.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a bright, vivid ruby hue with youthful clarity. The nose is expressive and fresh, offering red cherry, wild strawberry, violet, and subtle spicy or stony accents.
On the palate, it is lively and finely structured, with juicy red fruit, graceful tannins, and a distinct mineral streak that gives the wine shape and energy. The finish is clean, persistent, and lightly savory. While delicious in its youth for its brightness and purity, it also has the structure to develop further over the next few years, gaining complexity and a more rounded texture.
Production
Les Sept Vignes is drawn from seven parcels on Côte de Brouilly, a volcanic hillside terroir formed by blue stone soils on Mont Brouilly, which lends the wine its signature minerality and tension. The grapes are typically harvested by hand to preserve fruit quality, and vinification is carried out with care to emphasize freshness, site expression, and the lifted aromatic profile that Gamay can deliver in this cru.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile, food-friendly red that pairs beautifully with roast chicken, grilled salmon, charcuterie, mushroom dishes, and lighter game. Serve it slightly cool, around 14–16°C, and consider a short decant if opened young to allow the aromas to open fully.
Producer
Château Thivin is one of the historic names of Côte de Brouilly and has long been regarded as a reference point for quality in Beaujolais. Family-run for generations, the estate is known for its commitment to terroir-driven wines and its role in elevating the reputation of the crus of Beaujolais through consistently expressive, elegant bottlings.
