Description

The 2023 Domaine Matrot Meursault is a classic white Burgundy that balances Meursault’s generous richness with the precision and freshness of a modern, thoughtful grower. Crafted from old-vine Chardonnay in some of the village’s finest terroirs, it delivers both immediate charm and the structure to age gracefully. This is a benchmark expression of Meursault, shaped by a family domaine that has been refining its style for over a century.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Meursault shows a pale to medium lemon color with green highlights, hinting at its youth and vibrancy. The nose opens with layers of fresh orchard fruit—pear, apple, and white peach—woven with lemon zest, crushed almonds, and a subtle touch of toasted hazelnut. Underneath sits a cool mineral line, suggesting wet stone and a gentle hint of chalk. On the palate, it is precise yet creamy, with a lovely tension between ripe fruit and bright acidity. Flavors of juicy pear, citrus oil, and stone fruit are framed by subtle notes of buttered brioche, roasted nuts, and a whisper of vanilla from careful élevage. The finish is long and saline, leaving a mouthwatering impression rather than heaviness. While approachable in its youth, this 2023 has the concentration and structure to develop more complexity over the next 5–10 years, gaining deeper nutty and honeyed nuances with time in bottle.

Production
Domaine Matrot’s Meursault is sourced from several well-situated village parcels rooted in classic Meursault marl and limestone soils, which give the wine both its textured mid-palate and its flinty, mineral backbone. The domaine works with sustainable, largely organic farming principles, favoring careful canopy management and modest yields to ensure ripeness and concentration. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal maturity, then gently pressed and allowed to ferment with indigenous yeasts in oak barrels, a restrained proportion of which are new to preserve purity over overt woodiness. The wine then ages on its fine lees, with limited bâtonnage, building texture and complexity while maintaining tension and freshness before bottling.

Food & Serving
This Meursault is a natural partner for refined, richly flavored dishes such as seared scallops, lobster with butter or cream sauces, roast chicken with morel mushrooms, or veal in a light cream reduction. It also shines alongside buttery white fish, poultry terrines, and aged, nutty cheeses like Comté or Gruyère. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its aromatic detail and mineral cut. Young bottles benefit from a brief 30–45 minutes in a decanter to open up the nose and soften the initial edge, especially if enjoyed within the first few years of release.

Producer
Domaine Matrot is one of Meursault’s most respected family domaines, with roots in Burgundy that stretch back to the early 20th century. Over generations, the Matrot family has quietly built a reputation for producing wines that marry the traditional richness of Meursault with a more contemporary focus on freshness, precision, and terroir transparency. Now run by the latest generation, the estate farms prime parcels in Meursault and neighboring appellations with a strong commitment to sustainable and organic practices. Known for their consistently high quality and age-worthy whites, Domaine Matrot has become a reference point not only within Meursault but across the Côte de Beaune, regularly earning critical acclaim for the clarity and authenticity of its wines.
