Description

2013 Ma'd Moser Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos MM555 is a benchmark sweet wine from the historic Tokaj region in Hungary, crafted in the traditional Aszú style. This is a richly concentrated, botrytised dessert wine that balances opulence with remarkable freshness. For collectors and sweet wine lovers alike, it offers a glimpse into why Tokaji has been treasured on royal tables for centuries.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Tokaji Aszú shows a deep golden to amber hue, with luminous reflections that hint at both concentration and age. The nose is intensely aromatic, offering layers of apricot compote, candied orange peel, acacia honey and ripe peach, interwoven with notes of saffron, chamomile, dried pineapple and a subtle touch of toasted nuts and spice. On the palate, the wine is lusciously sweet yet impeccably balanced by vibrant acidity, a hallmark of great Tokaji. Flavours of dried apricots, quince paste, marmalade and honeyed citrus unfold alongside hints of dried fig, ginger and a gentle minerality that adds precision and length. The texture is silky and mouth-coating, with a very long, persistent finish that leaves impressions of citrus zest and sweet spice. With the 2013 vintage and 6 puttonyos level, this wine has excellent aging potential; properly cellared, it can develop further complexity for 15–25 years or more, gaining deeper notes of caramel, nuts and dried fruits over time.

Production
Sourced from the volcanic hillsides around the village of Mád in Hungary’s Tokaj region, this wine benefits from a unique terroir of tufa and volcanic subsoils that lend energy and minerality to the naturally sweet fruit. The climate, with its autumn mists from nearby rivers, encourages the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea) on late-harvested berries, concentrating sugars, acids and flavours. Hand-harvested Aszú berries—carefully selected, shrivelled and botrytised grapes—are traditionally macerated with a base wine or must made primarily from Furmint, often blended with other local varieties such as Hárslevelű and Sárgamuskotály, before gentle pressing. The must then undergoes a slow fermentation and is aged in oak barrels in cool cellars, allowing the wine to integrate sweetness, acidity and oak influence while preserving Tokaj’s signature purity and balance.

Food & Serving
This 2013 Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos MM555 shines alongside rich desserts such as crème brûlée, fruit tarts with apricot or peach, almond cake, and blue cheeses like Roquefort or Gorgonzola. It also pairs beautifully with foie gras or pâté, where the sweetness and acidity cut through richness and elevate the dish. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12 °C, to showcase its aromatics and complexity without muting the flavours. Decanting is usually not necessary, but opening the bottle 15–20 minutes before serving allows the wine to fully express its bouquet.
