Crafted in the traditional method, it delivers fine bubbles, balanced freshness, and a refined profile that can easily stand in for Champagne at the table or for celebrations. This non-vintage cuvée showcases the classic Burgundian grapes Chardonnay, Gamay, and Pinot Noir, reflecting a style that Veuve Ambal has been perfecting since the late 19th century.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Crémant presents a bright, pale straw-yellow color with subtle golden highlights and a lively, persistent mousse. The nose is expressive and inviting, marked by fresh orchard fruits such as green apple and pear, alongside notes of white flowers, citrus zest, and a delicate hint of brioche and almond from time spent on the lees. On the palate, the Grande Cuvée Brut is dry, crisp, and finely textured, with a creamy effervescence that carries flavors of apple, lemon, and stone fruit, wrapped in a subtle pastry and nutty complexity. The blend of Chardonnay, Gamay, and Pinot Noir gives both freshness and gentle red-fruit nuance, resulting in a balanced and versatile sparkling wine. While designed to be enjoyed upon release for its vibrancy and lift, it can comfortably age for a few years in bottle, gaining a bit more roundness and complexity over time.
Production
Sourced from selected vineyards across Burgundy, Veuve Ambal’s Grande Cuvée Brut reflects the region’s cool climate, limestone-rich soils, and varied exposures that are ideal for producing crisp, characterful sparkling wines. Grapes are typically harvested by hand or carefully machine-picked at optimal ripeness to preserve acidity and aromatic purity. The wine is made using the traditional method: after an initial fermentation, the base wines are blended and bottled with yeast and sugar for a second fermentation, creating the bubbles naturally in the bottle. It is then aged on its lees for an extended period to develop finer bubbles, creamier texture, and subtle toasty notes, before riddling, disgorgement, and dosage set the final Brut style.
Food & Serving
Veuve Ambal Crémant de Bourgogne Grande Cuvée Brut is a versatile partner at the table, ideal as an aperitif or paired with light starters such as oysters, shrimp, or smoked salmon. It also works beautifully with sushi, fresh goat cheese, mild soft cheeses, and delicate poultry or seafood dishes, as well as tempura and lightly fried appetizers where its acidity cuts through richness. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F) to highlight its freshness and finesse. Decanting is not necessary; simply open just before serving, allowing a few minutes in the glass for the aromas to fully open.
