Blending Graciano, Grenache, Mazuelo and Tempranillo, it offers both freshness and depth, making it as versatile at the table as it is enjoyable on its own. Sourced from one of the estate’s finest plots, this rosé reflects a modern, terroir-driven approach within a region best known for its reds.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Solarce Rosé 2021 typically shows a delicate, pale salmon to light onion-skin hue with brilliant clarity. On the nose, expect bright notes of wild strawberries, redcurrants and fresh raspberries, layered with hints of white peach, citrus zest and a subtle floral touch reminiscent of rose petals and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is dry, crisp and finely textured, with lively acidity that keeps the wine vibrant from start to finish. Red berry fruit leads the way, joined by pink grapefruit, stone fruit and a gentle mineral edge that adds precision. The blend of native Rioja varieties lends a bit more structure and complexity than many rosés, giving a pleasant, lightly savory finish with good length. While meant to be enjoyed in its youth for maximum freshness and aromatic intensity, it will hold nicely over the next 1–2 years.
Production
Casa La Rad draws the fruit for Solarce Rosé from the La Rad vineyard, one of its top sites, planted on well-drained soils that combine clay-limestone and stony layers typical of quality Rioja terroir. The vines benefit from a continental climate moderated by altitude and cooling breezes, which helps preserve acidity and aromatic purity in the grapes. Harvest is carried out with a focus on quality, often in the cooler hours of the day, to ensure the fruit arrives at the cellar fresh and intact. The rosé is made using gentle pressing of red grapes to obtain a pale-colored must, which is then fermented at controlled, cool temperatures in stainless steel to lock in fragrance and freshness. Casa La Rad’s strong commitment to sustainability and biodiversity informs their vineyard work, favoring environmentally respectful practices that allow the character of the site and varieties to shine through.
Food & Serving
Solarce Rosé 2021 is an excellent partner for a wide range of dishes, from tapas and charcuterie to seafood and light Mediterranean cuisine. Try it with grilled prawns, tuna tartare, ceviche, paella, roasted vegetables, salads with goat cheese, or simply cured meats and olives. It also pairs beautifully with lighter poultry dishes and summer picnics. Serve well-chilled, ideally around 8–10°C (46–50°F), to highlight its freshness and aromatics. Decanting is not necessary; simply open the bottle shortly before serving.
Producer
Casa La Rad takes its name from the La Rad vineyard, one of the estate’s most prized parcels, where vines have been cultivated since the 1960s in the heart of Rioja. Working with around 110 hectares of vineyards and additional olive groves for premium olive oil production, the estate has built its identity around quality, sustainability and respect for the land. Casa La Rad champions biodiversity and environmentally conscious viticulture, aiming to preserve the landscape and its ecosystems for future generations. Within Rioja, the producer is recognized as part of a new wave of estates emphasizing terroir-driven wines that express specific sites, bringing a fresh, contemporary perspective to a region steeped in winemaking tradition.
