Crafted in small quantities, it focuses on purity rather than power, highlighting texture, tension and a finely etched sense of place. This cuvée reflects Luis Seabra’s philosophy of low-intervention winemaking and his long-standing dedication to revealing the character of specific terroirs rather than the imprint of the cellar.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Granito Cru 2022 presents a pale straw to light lemon hue with greenish reflections, signaling its vibrancy and youth. The nose is immediately lifted and detailed, offering layers of citrus (lemon zest, lime, yuzu), crisp green apple and pear, alongside white flowers, wet stone, sea spray and a subtle herbal edge reminiscent of fennel fronds and lemon verbena. On the palate, the wine is taut, linear and saline, with a fine-boned structure and a mouthwatering spine of acidity that drives the flavours long across the tongue. Citrus and crunchy orchard fruit are wrapped around a core of chalky, almost powdery minerality, evolving with hints of white peach, grapefruit pith and a gentle, savory note. The texture is both delicate and persistent, with a slight creaminess from lees contact that never weighs the wine down. This 2022 vintage drinks beautifully now for its energy and precision but has the structure to develop further complexity over the next 5–8 years, gaining more texture, nutty nuances and honeyed tones while retaining its mineral backbone.
Production
Granito Cru 2022 is sourced from carefully selected granite-based vineyards in northern Portugal, where cool nights, moderate daytime temperatures and poor, stony soils naturally limit yields and concentrate flavour. These well-drained granitic sites emphasise tension, salinity and aromatic lift in Albariño, giving a very different profile than richer, warmer inland terroirs. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve acidity and aromatic delicacy, with rigorous sorting to ensure only the healthiest bunches reach the cellar. Vinification follows a low-intervention approach: gentle pressing, a cool, slow fermentation—primarily in neutral vessels—to avoid masking the fruit and terroir, and extended maturation on fine lees to build texture and complexity without overt oak influence. The result is a wine that is transparent to its origin, with minimal cosmetic winemaking and no unnecessary embellishment.
Food & Serving
Granito Cru 2022 is a natural partner for seafood and dishes that echo its maritime, mineral profile. Think freshly shucked oysters, razor clams, ceviche, grilled prawns, steamed mussels, or simply prepared white fish with olive oil, lemon and herbs. It also works beautifully with sushi and sashimi, lightly spiced Asian dishes, goat cheese, and vegetable-based plates like asparagus, fennel salad or grilled artichokes, where its acidity cuts through and refreshes. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally around 9–11 °C, to allow the aromatics and texture to unfold. Decanting is not essential, but a brief 15–20 minutes in a carafe can help the wine open up if served very young, especially for those who enjoy a broader, more textural expression.
