Rather than following the traditional idea that vintage alone defines greatness, Grand Siècle N°26 is crafted to combine depth, intensity and aromatic complexity with remarkable freshness and poise. This cuvée, revealed only in numbered iterations since 1959, represents one of the most refined and ageworthy expressions of Champagne from Laurent-Perrier.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Grand Siècle N°26 shows a luminous, pale gold color with a fine, persistent mousse that forms a delicate, creamy bead. The nose is complex and layered: notes of warm brioche, toasted hazelnuts and almond cream weave together with citrus oil, ripe pear, white flowers and a subtle saline-mineral edge. On the palate, this Champagne is both powerful and supremely elegant, with a silken texture and an almost weightless intensity. Chardonnay leads with tension, purity and precision, bringing flavors of lemon zest, grapefruit, and crunchy green apple, while Pinot Noir (Pinot Nero) contributes structure, depth and a core of subtle red fruit. Hints of honeycomb, patisserie, roasted nuts and chalky minerality unfold with time in the glass, finishing long, vibrant and savory. Thanks to extended aging on lees and the blend of top vintages, Grand Siècle N°26 has excellent aging potential; carefully cellared, it will continue to gain complexity and nuance over 10–15 years or more.
Production
Grand Siècle N°26 is sourced exclusively from a selection of the very best Grand Cru villages in the Champagne region of France, where chalk-rich soils and cool, northerly climate provide ideal conditions for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Laurent-Perrier harvests the grapes by hand to ensure pristine fruit selection, picking at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and finesse. The wine is vinified cru by cru and grape by grape, primarily in temperature-controlled stainless steel to retain purity of fruit, before the meticulous assemblage of several great vintages to achieve the house’s vision of a ‘perfect year.’ After the second fermentation in bottle, Grand Siècle spends an extended period aging on its lees, enhancing texture, aromatic depth and complexity before disgorgement and release.
Food & Serving
Grand Siècle N°26 is a versatile yet luxurious partner at the table, pairing beautifully with refined dishes such as caviar, oysters, scallop carpaccio, lobster, turbot in beurre blanc, or roasted poultry with truffle. Its depth and complexity also suit aged hard cheeses and delicate mushroom-based dishes. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally around 10–12°C (50–54°F), to allow the full aromatic spectrum to open. A gentle decant into a chilled carafe or simply giving the wine time to breathe in the glass can further reveal its layers, especially if enjoyed with a multi-course meal.
