Crafted from a dozen carefully selected appellations across Burgundy, it offers a refined, authentic expression of Pinot Noir at a very approachable level. This cuvée has long been a benchmark for quality Bourgogne Rouge, bringing together Drouhin’s hallmark elegance, precision and respect for terroir in a versatile, food-friendly wine.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Laforet Pinot Noir shows a bright, translucent ruby color with youthful highlights. The nose is immediately inviting, with notes of fresh red cherries, wild strawberries and raspberries, supported by hints of dried flowers, subtle spice and a touch of earth typical of Burgundy. On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied, vibrant and finely textured, with juicy red fruit at the core and a lively, refreshing acidity. Silky tannins and a delicate mineral edge give structure without heaviness, while gentle notes of spice and undergrowth linger on the finish. This is a wine meant to be enjoyed in its youth for its pure, crunchy fruit and finesse, though it can comfortably evolve over 3–5 years in bottle, gaining a bit more complexity and softness.
Production
For Laforet, Joseph Drouhin draws on a selection of vineyards from a dozen different appellations across Burgundy, combining fruit from both Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits as well as other complementary sites. These varied terroirs—ranging from limestone-clay slopes to lighter, well-drained soils—contribute to the wine’s balance of freshness, fragrance and subtle structure. The grapes are harvested with great attention to ripeness, often by hand in the best sites, then sorted to ensure only healthy, well-matured fruit is used. Vinification typically involves gentle destemming, a cool maceration to capture aromatics and color, and fermentation in vat, with a focus on preserving purity of fruit rather than heavy extraction. Aging takes place in a mix of stainless steel and older oak barrels, allowing the Pinot Noir character and regional identity to shine without overt oak influence.
Food & Serving
This Bourgogne Laforet Pinot Noir is a highly versatile food wine, pairing beautifully with roast chicken, grilled pork, charcuterie, veal, and lighter lamb dishes, as well as mushroom risotto, pasta with herbs, and mild to medium cheeses such as brie, camembert or tomme. It also works well with salmon or tuna prepared simply, especially when served with earthy or herbal accompaniments. Serve at around 14–16°C (57–61°F) to highlight its delicate aromatics and freshness. A brief 20–30 minutes in a carafe can help the wine open up, but extended decanting is not necessary—this is a Pinot Noir designed for immediate pleasure and easy drinking.
