Crafted from Grand Cru vineyards in Champagne and a classic blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, it combines elegance, precision and depth in a beautifully balanced brut. So emblematic is this wine that every other Jacques Busin cuvée contains a touch of this Brut Tradition in the blend.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne shows a luminous straw-gold color with fine, persistent bubbles that form a delicate, creamy mousse. The visual impression is one of clarity and refinement, hinting at the precision of the winemaking. On the nose, expect an inviting bouquet of ripe orchard fruit—pear and golden apple—layered with notes of lemon zest, white flowers and a subtle brioche or fresh pastry nuance from time on the lees. The palate is dry, lively and harmonious, where Pinot Noir brings structure, red-fruited nuance and a gentle vinosity, while Chardonnay lifts the wine with tension, chalky minerality and citrus-driven freshness. Flavors of baked apple, citrus peel, almond and a touch of honeyed toast evolve in the glass, leading to a long, clean, saline-tinged finish. Enjoyable now for its energy and finesse, this non-vintage Grand Cru Brut has the concentration and backbone to evolve gracefully for several more years in bottle, gaining additional complexity and softness over time.
Production
Sourced exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards in the heart of the Champagne region, this cuvée reflects the region’s finest chalk-rich terroirs. The soils, dominated by limestone and chalk, provide excellent drainage and lend a precise mineral character and tension to the wine. Grapes are carefully harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and integrity of the berries. In the cellar, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are vinified separately in temperature-controlled vessels to capture their individual personalities before blending. A portion of reserve wines is incorporated to maintain the signature Jacques Busin style year after year. After secondary fermentation in bottle, the wine rests extensively on its lees, developing texture, fine bubbles and subtle pastry notes, before being disgorged and finished with a carefully judged brut dosage.
Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Brut is a versatile food companion, ideal both as an aperitif and at the table. Pair it with classic Champagne matches like fresh oysters, caviar, sushi and sashimi, or delicate seafood dishes such as scallops, poached turbot or grilled prawns. It also complements poultry in light cream sauces, veal carpaccio, and refined appetizers like gougères or smoked salmon blinis. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) to highlight its precision and freshness. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or in a decanter designed for sparkling wine can help the aromas open up, but extended decanting is not necessary; this cuvée is crafted to show beautifully from the first pour.
