Crafted to highlight purity and precision rather than oak or heavy winemaking influence, it captures the stony freshness and energy that have made Loire Valley whites so sought after. This cuvée reflects generations of Bourgeois family know-how, distilled into a modern, ultra-clean style of Sancerre.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Sancerre Pure 2024 shows a pale, shimmering lemon color with green reflections, hinting at its youth and vibrancy. The nose is immediately expressive: zesty lemon and lime, crunchy green apple and white peach, with lifted notes of gooseberry, elderflower and freshly cut herbs. Underneath the fruit sits a distinct mineral edge—think wet stone and chalk dust—along with a subtle saline breeze that speaks clearly of its Loire origins. On the palate, this is precise, linear and intensely refreshing. Citrus and orchard fruits drive the attack, followed by more tropical nuances of passion fruit and grapefruit pith, wrapped in mouthwatering, almost electric acidity. The texture is sleek and finely etched, with that signature Sancerre flinty minerality running through the core and into a long, clean, very dry finish. Enjoy it now for its vivid fruit and tension; over the next 3–5 years it should gain a little roundness and complexity while preserving its verve.
Production
Sancerre Pure 2024 is sourced from hillside vineyards in the heart of Sancerre, where Sauvignon Blanc vines sink their roots into a mosaic of limestone, flint (silex) and clay-limestone soils. This mix of terroirs gives both aromatic brightness and a pronounced mineral backbone. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and allow careful sorting in the vineyard and at the cellar door. Vinification focuses on clarity and precision: gentle pressing, cool fermentation in stainless steel and maturation on fine lees to build texture, all without intrusive oak. The result is a wine that lives up to its name—pure, unadorned Sancerre.
Food & Serving
This Sancerre is a natural partner for classic seafood and light, refined dishes. Pair it with oysters on the half shell, shrimp, scallops, sushi and sashimi, or simply grilled white fish with lemon and herbs. It’s equally at home alongside fresh goat’s cheese (especially Crottin de Chavignol), asparagus, citrus-dressed salads or delicate vegetable dishes. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F). Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving allows the aromatics to fully open in the glass.
Producer
The Bourgeois family has been cultivating vines in Sancerre for generations and is widely regarded as one of the reference estates for Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire Valley. From humble village beginnings, Henri Bourgeois helped transform the domaine into an internationally recognized producer, with vineyards in some of the region’s most prized sites. Their meticulous work in the vineyard, parcel-by-parcel approach and commitment to expressing terroir have made the estate a benchmark for classic, mineral-driven Sancerre. Today, the family’s wines are poured in top restaurants and wine bars around the world, consistently earning strong critical acclaim for their precision, purity and sense of place.
