Crafted from carefully selected Sauvignon Blanc grapes, it offers the kind of lifted citrus and tropical fruit character that made New Zealand famous among white wine enthusiasts worldwide. This bottling is designed to be approachable yet refined, showcasing the country’s cool coastal climate and pristine growing conditions in every glass.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Ferngreen New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc 2022 shows a pale straw color with greenish hues, reflecting its youth and vibrancy. The nose is intensely expressive, bursting with notes of lime zest, grapefruit and passionfruit, layered with freshly cut grass, gooseberry and a hint of wet stone. On the palate, this wine is crisp, juicy and mouthwatering, with zesty citrus and ripe tropical fruit at the core, wrapped in lively acidity. Subtle herbal tones and a faint saline edge add complexity and a clean, refreshing finish. It’s made to be enjoyed in its youth for maximum aromatic impact and energy, but will hold well for another 1–2 years, developing a slightly softer texture and more rounded fruit profile over time.
Production
Ferngreen sources its Sauvignon Blanc from cool-climate vineyards in New Zealand, where long, sunny days and cool nights help preserve acidity while building intense flavor concentration. The vines grow in a mix of free-draining alluvial and gravelly soils, which encourage deep root systems and contribute to the wine’s mineral lift. Grapes are typically harvested in the cool of the night or early morning to protect delicate aromatics, then quickly transported to the winery. There, they are gently pressed and fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks to lock in freshness, preserve varietal character and avoid any oak influence, resulting in a pure, clean and vibrant expression of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Food & Serving
Ferngreen New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is a natural partner for seafood—think freshly shucked oysters, prawns, ceviche or simply grilled fish with lemon and herbs. It also shines alongside goat cheese, sushi, Asian-inspired salads with citrus dressings, or light vegetarian dishes with asparagus, peas and fresh herbs. Serve well-chilled at around 7–10°C (45–50°F) to emphasize its crispness and aromatic lift. Decanting is not necessary; simply open and pour for immediate enjoyment, allowing the wine a few minutes in the glass to fully open up.
